Post Worth it to start playing now?

Hi fellow GWG'ers, I have been playing Guild Wars since around 2006. Although I quit around mid 2007, should I start again?

My friends and I have played WoW, and got bored pretty quick and it sucked money out of our wallets fast. Now I suggested GW to them and we think it might be a good idea to play.

Unfortunately I heard that GW2 is coming out soon and wanted to know if it was good to start now with my friends. Do you think we will get enough out of it? Or just play a free game until GW2 is out.

Be aware that we live in New Zealand (Next to Australia, look it up on the globe/map) Since of this, we get games much slower than other countries, usually around 3 months to even a year!

So can you post and share your opinions for me so I can decide if my friends and I want to play.

While we are on this matter, please check out the Trial Key Thread and read my post. I am still also wondering, if I do rejoin, on what campaign to get (I have Prophecies)

Thanks,

CountRockin

I would say get it. Its a fun game and Guild Wars 2 will probably not be out for a while, unfortunately. Also, they came out with the Guild Wars Trilogy pack. All three games for 50$.

GW is worth a second look, especially if you have friends that will play with you. Don't worry about GW2, it won't be out for another year or two.

Concerning campaigns, Nightfall is great and Factions is worth playing also. EotN is where most people are at nowadays and has some great farming areas.

Hmm, thanks guys. Should my friends buy Prophecies first? Or go straight to Nightfall as I have heard that Factions is mainly PVP based.

Anyway, Ill probably be buying Nightfall then, perhaps Factions after. But me and my friends like the co-op experience more than PVP until later.

Whatever made you quit before has either gone unchanged, or has gotten worse.

IMHO Nightfall(heroes and great Skills)>>Factions(more great skills + allaince battles)>>Prophecies(okay skills and fow armor lol) OR EotN(more heroes + nice armors and dungeons are nice for wasting sum time)

Not worth it. Game is almost dead.

WAR ->>> Thar. GW is not coming till 2011.

No info in 2008.
MAYBE info in 2009, closed beta MAAAAYBE in fall/winter, don't get hopes up.
Closed Beta/Open Beta in 2010.

And if they don't fail, late 2010/2011 GW2.

I don't think anyone will be playing GW by then... The closer to release of next game, the less attention previous one gets.

Imo you play for better pvp (war), better pve (wow), better customer support, dev support (both ;d), more updates and, well, devs care more about your fansites.

At least in WAR, where a lot of devs actively talk on Warhammer Alliance non-official forum. Not to mention add-on support, even recently there was created an anti-gold spammer add-on. Devs not only did not say "you are using this on your own risk, bla bla bla", but also recommended using it.

Go for it, gw2 won`t be out for some time. As for games coming late to NZ, why don`t you order them from Amazon or some other similar site?

Maybe for you it is. But remember the OP still has to complete 3 campaigns. That's enough content for at least a year, PvE-wise.

Pairing up with a buddy makes this game a great experience for sure. With the added Heroes from Nightfall, you are able to beat any mission just with the two of you, and it saves you the agony from playing with strangers who are only intent to spoil your fun.

Most stores are selling the games for less than $15, so give it a shot.

I wouldn't listen to comments like "game is almost dead". Yes, GW is going to be released sometime around 2010, but there's still a lot of people playing the game. It can be tough to find groups in certain areas, but that's always been the case, and if you plan on playing through the games, with even just one friend, then you shouldn't have any problems. Even when the games were originally released, I payed right through them all with only one buddy, but in that case, you'll want to get some Heroes right away.

A lot of people who have been around for a long time have obviously became bored with the lack of new content, the game isn't updated regularly like WoW is although a lot of the weekend events can be fun, particularly the big Holiday Festivals for Halloween and so forth.

If you're looking for a new game to play, I'd say go for it, you don't really have anything to lose. It's cheap, there's no pressure to keep playing, so you can go at whatever pace you like, and there's a fair amount of content at this point, it'll keep you occupied for many months.

Factions has weaker a weaker campaign than the others, IMO, the story is just terrible. A lot of the new stuff that was added with it was geared more towards the PVP side, but there is still a lot of new content with it. A lot of the areas are very beautiful and it has some of the best armour sets.

Not sure if that's available in other countries, but that would easily be the best deal.

It is indeed strange to see so many Guild Wars naysayers on a Guild Wars Fansite forum. I don't quite understand the motivations.

I think would have tons of stuff to do in GW. Especially it appears that you get borred with the traditional MMORPG conventions.

2 campaigns and 1 expansion make an easy 100 hours of play, even if you only play through the story. the easily grows by multiples if you want to play as multiple classes, pursue elite armor, or farm for rare weapon skins.

Keep in mind that Guild Wars is not really a MMORPG. Its more of an Multi-Player RPG. A couple of the key differences.

GW - You can beat it.
Other MOGs - No end

GW - In deapth story line that has a conclusion.
Other MOGs - just enough story to give some dialoge for the quests.

GW - Gear with the best stats is readily availible (some skins are rare)
Other MOGs - Have you spend ours a day for weeks to months for best gear.

On a side note: Everyone always talks about these "Content Updates" for MMORPGs like WOW. As a veteran of Dark Age of Camelot and a little bit of WOW i have never seen these. Yes they come out with expansions, but you still have to pay for them. And what about your $15 a month. Seams like they could provide alot more content every month for that price. Heck alot of fun small games are released at the $10-$15 price. IMO - Games with monthly fees are a questionable value.

It's mainly the fact that Guild Wars has gone off-course and started driving into the sea. It is strange, but I myself agree with it too.

I wouldn't recommend Guild Wars at all these days.

It is worth to play, all the "zomg imba" drama is way out of proportion. All it takes to enjoy the game is a nice guild and more important, the fact that you play it to have fun, which I'm not sure most people still do.
